Navigating the Medical World Today

Today things are changing rapidly.  I want to share with you some important information that you should be aware of and take steps to prepare yourself to navigate in today's medical world.

I want to encourage all of you to take a little bit of time and truly think about your health and the health of your loved ones. Also think about how you can help the medical field and your loved ones if you are unable to make decisions. There are several things that I think EVERY person needs to do:

1. Make a list of all your medications and carry it with you at all times! You need to write out the name of the medication, the dosage, how often you take it, and what it is for.
Example: Vitamin C 1000 mg every day for energy

2. List any and ALL allergies you have on the same paper ~ medication, food, inhalant, skin, etc.
     Example: peanuts, shellfish

3. List all surgeries you have had and if possible the date.

4. Make a Living Will. This tells the medical community what your wishes are.

5. Get a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care. This allows the person(s) you choose to sign for your medical needs if you are unable to.

The last 2 I will go into more detail in another post. But for now ~ please get busy!
